In Vietnam, coffee isn't rushed. You set a small filter — a phin — on your cup, add the grounds, pour the water, and wait. Four or five minutes, drop by drop. That wait is the whole point.
Phin & Clay started with one question: why is the phin almost always thin metal, when Vietnam has such a long tradition of ceramics? So we set out to make the phin — and the cups around it — out of glazed clay from Vietnamese ceramic workshops.
What we make
- The clay phin — a Vietnamese coffee filter in glazed ceramic.
- Fire-glaze cups — sized to sit under the phin. The glaze shifts with the kiln, so no two pieces are exactly alike.
- Gift sets — the phin and cups boxed together, ready to give.
What we don't make
